Unexpected Award for Company

SCA Group has received an unexpected award for helping to develop skills to deliver the best possible quality of care.

Companies cannot put themselves forward or be nominated for the Strategic HR Awards, which are made by law firm Moore Blatch solely after research involving more than 4500 companies in the south of England and a validation process involving 12 professional institutes and academics.

When the government decided that new care workers needed some form of qualification, in the form of an NVQ, social enterprise Social Care in Action wanted to go one significant step further.

Instead of relying on outside training providers, SCA invested in its own facility, the Quinn Centre, which not only enables its people to achieve the necessary qualifications to the standard the group is looking for, but also provides career progression.

Today the NVQ is now a diploma but SCA has gone that one step further by making its five-day induction course part of the diploma in Health and Social Care. The Quinn Centre not only trains its own care and health staff, but the facility is used by both public and private sector organisations.

The award was presented to Lisa Dillane, SCA Group’s Director of Organisational Development, by Katherine Maxwell of Moore Blatch at a recent ceremony at Chineham Business Park in Basingstoke.

Note to editors:
This is the inaugural set of Strategic HR Awards.

The foundation attributes applied to identify companies were:
• HR management is intrinsic to perpetuating and developing company culture, defining interaction and relationships relating to employees, customers, and suppliers.
• HR is part of the business strategy and strategic planning process rather than just a mechanism to deliver strategy.
• Recognition by accreditation of commitment to best practice and acceptance of scrutiny and measurement.
• A desire to set benchmark standards and improve business performance rather than being driven by legislative/regulatory demands.
• Tangible, demonstrable results - quantifying the input made by HR.
