Pancake Dash in Aid of Dementia Care

Staff and volunteers of the SCA Fenwick2 Health and Wellbeing Centre took part in a Pancake Race today,  21 February 2012, to raise money for activities for the members of the day service that runs for people with dementia. Money raised will help fund the purchase of some new equipment for activities at the centre, including some pyramids for the garden at the centre (the members will this year be growing some sweet peas and beans and the pyramids will prevent them having to bend down to pick the flowers and beans), some scented candles and soaps which help with reminiscence activities where smells can trigger different memories and also some new song books as singing is one of the most popular activities.

The race was held in the car park and members looked on as a mixture of SCA staff and volunteers competed in the race, each competitor had to toss their pancake 5 times whilst running. The race was adjudicated by Colin Fisher, SCA Fenwick2 Board Member and volunteer at the centre. The winner was Izzy Nicholls, SCA Director of Care closely followed in second place by Wendy Bolt, SCA Fenwick2 Centre Co-ordinator.
