The Brook Centre

Offering Day Support & Care for Older People with Higher Physical Dependency.

The Brook Centre is part of project partnership with SCA, Southampton City Council, Saxon Weald Housing Association and Southampton PCT.  The Project includes a new Support and Wellbeing Centre for older people alongside an Extra Care Housing Unit and flats for people with learning disabilities coming out of long stay hospitals.

The Brook is situated in the East of the City in the Bitterne area and opened on 1 September 2008.  The centre is a long awaited replacement for the former Birch Lawn Day Centre which was closed a few years ago.  The centre provides day support and care for people from the East of the City who have higher level physical dependency needs.  The service will complement the Brownhill House Day Centre in the west of the City and Padwell Road Day Centre (managed by Age Concern) in the Central City area.

The Brook provides 21 places a day from Monday to Friday, in a purpose built and very pleasant environment which includes a patio and small garden area outside the lounge.

Staff to service user ratio is 1:3 to ensure the right level of support for those accessing the centre.

Two minibuses provide a transport service which will ensure access for the whole of the East City area.

Those currently attending the Brook have transferred from other Day Care centres and are delighted with their new surroundings as is the staff team.
