Launch of the Community Transport ‘Plus Bus’ Service
November 07th 2007
A new and innovative community transport scheme called ‘Plus Bus', will be launched on Friday 9th November at 2 p.m. by MP and Cabinet Minister John Denham, and Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport Gavin Dick, at the Centre for Healthy Living in Thornhill.
Thornhill Plus You, Southampton City Council and SCA Support Services have been working in partnership, to roll out a nine month pilot community transport scheme operating in Thornhill. The scheme focuses on the transportation of groups concerned with education, social welfare and community activities and individuals that cannot access services by existing public transportation routes nor have their own form of transport.
Peter Hunt, Deputy Partnership Director for Thornhill Plus You commented: "The Plus Bus is a vital new service that provides real freedom to people who have difficulty using other forms of transport, which is a great boost for the local community."
Brian Strevens, Chief Executive of the SCA Group commented: "SCA is delighted to be involved in the Pilot Service in the Thornhill area. As a long standing provider of Community Transport, we are pleased to be working in partnership with Thornhill Plus You and Southampton City Council. SCA is hoping to build upon the results of this pilot to develop a comprehensive transport service for the area."
