About the Fenwick 2
Health and Well-being Centre
The Fenwick Hospital re-opened its doors to the public as a new-look Health and Well-being Centre for local people in April 2008.
The centre is one of the first in a pioneering new wave of health services run by social enterprises and provides a mix of NHS services and private therapies.
Hampshire PCT legally transferred ownership of the hospital buildings - located at Pikes Hill, Lyndhurst - to Fenwick 2, a social enterprise partnership between SCA Group and the hospital League of Friends.
The centre was made possible through the support of partner agencies such as Hampshire PCT, Hampshire County Council and New Forest District Council.
The Board.
The Fenwick 2 Board is chaired by George Dibben (pictured right), a prominent local citizen, and he is joined by a Board of members with experience of Health, Social Services and Voluntary Action. Fenwick 2 also benefits from SCA's managerial, financial and personnel services.
Social Enterprises
Social enterprises are organisations run along business lines, but where any profits are reinvested into the community or into service developments. Encouraging social enterprise in health and social care is a key part of the Government's reforms.
The Department of Health's Social Enterprise Unit is working with social enterprise pathfinders that will lead the way in delivering innovative health and social care services. The learning from these pathfinders will be shared across the health and social care sector so that others can benefit from the pathfinders' experience.
Fenwick 2, a social enterprise partnership between SCA Group and the Fenwick Hospital League of Friends, was one of the first wave of twenty six pathfinder projects to be awarded Government funding. It received £766,000 in 2007 under the pathfinder scheme to allow the Community Health and Wellbeing Centre to be set up.
Award Winner
The Fenwick 2 project won its nominated category in the Health and Social Care Awards in May 2008.
The Health and Social Care Awards highlight and celebrate innovation and excellence across health and social care by recognising and encouraging working together across organisations and professions, with service users and local populations
