Fenwick2

100 years on - and not retiring!
The Fenwick Hospital was opened to serve the community in 1908, in 2008 it will continue its mission as a Community Health and Well Being Centre with the aim of helping people live as long as possible in their own homes.
The SCA Health and Social Care Group and Fenwick Hospital League of Friends have jointly formed a new organisation - Fenwick 2 - which will operate the centre involving a number of service providers.
The re-modelled service that will be delivered from April 2008 will include:
A Long Term Conditions centre
The Long Term Conditions centre will build on the strengths of existing services in primary and community care in order to improve the health and quality of life of those with long term conditions. It will do this by providing personalised, systematic, on going, locally accessible support, for people receiving both NHS and social care, covering a range of long term conditions.Complementary Therapies
These will include Physiotherapy with both an NHS (to be confirmed) and purchased service, including a sports injury clinic. A small gym will be available to assist the rehabilitative process. Negotiations are in hand for Aroma Therapy, Yoga Therapy, Acupuncture and Homeopathy to be available.Respite Care
A day activity centre for people with dementia and an outreach 'companion scheme' will give enjoyment to patients and relief to carers.A Carers and Patients Resource Centre
In association with 'Carers together in Hampshire' and Fenwick League of Friends, an information and support centre will be offered. It will be particularly useful to patients from the Long Term Conditions and carers using the Respite Centre but information will be generally available through a website and a telephone advice line.Sensory Direct
A Community Interest Company that provides practical solutions which enable people to maintain their dignity, independence and quality of life through post diagnosis services, training and equipment.A Counselling Service
This will provide support for people at critical times in their lives.Training Facilities
These are available for local groups and organisations.
An application for £760,000 to renovate and equip the building has been successful with the Department of Health. Hampshire Primary Care Trust is considering 'gifting' the building to the Social Enterprise, Fenwick 2.
The Fenwick 2 Board is chaired by George Dibben, a prominent local citizen, and he is joined by Board members with experience of Health, Social Services and Voluntary Action.
Fenwick 2 staff will provide facilities management to enable a safe and pleasant working environment for all. The organization will benefit from SCA's managerial, financial and personnel services. This is an exciting venture, we look forward to the doors of a rejuvenated 'Fenwick' opening in April 2008.
