Extras
This highly valued service enables carers to 'take a break' from caring for a loved one or a relative. This service is delivered in a minimum of two hour time slots, allowing the carer ample time to go shopping, visit friends or places of interest. In some areas where this service is provided, carers can 'bank' their allocation of hours and use it within the calendar month, enabling them to spend longer periods doing what interests them.
Variations of this service can include some personal care tasks that the informal carer would have otherwise undertaken whilst they were there, or companionship, whereby the care worker will engage with the service user, either in simple activities such as conversation, playing games, or being able to enjoy their garden.
The Take a Break service is available in Fareham & Gosport and Havant & Waterlooville, both through Adult Services and is available privately (Waterlooville Office).
The Companion Services are available in the New Forest area, through Adult Services.
At present, SCA is launching the services privately in Southampton and Poole.
