Care At Home

SCA Community Care Services was established in 1992 in response to the NHS and Community Care Act 1990, with a mission to deliver a range of innovative care services to vulnerable people. One area of focus was to develop care at home services to support this legislation, and offer people the choice of remaining in the comfort of their own home receiving support, rather than entering residential care as before.

Fifteen years on, SCA has a sound track record of pioneering and implementing a range of responsible care services, working closely with Commissioners in both Adult Services and the Primary Care Trusts in several different localities. SCA now operates across the South in Poole, Southampton, the New Forest and East Hampshire, to deliver over 7000 visits of care at home per week. Our target groups include adults and older people with a range of disabilities, including those with Dementia type illnesses and long term conditions such as Parkinson's, stroke, chronic airways disease or diabetes.

We offer a diverse range of short and long term services, which include some, or all of the following:

o Personal care, including help to wash, shower, bath and dress.
o Domestic help such as light housework and shopping
o Teaching life skills i.e. budgeting, menu planning
o Support with tenancy, such as helping to pay bills, help organise repairs etc.
o Accessing local community facilities
o Rehabilitation
o Companionship or respite to carers of those who look after others

All of our service users are visited prior to the commencement of their support, to discuss their needs and to produce a plan of care (Care Plan). The Care Plan will incorporate the service user's wishes and preferences and the goals they would like to achieve. This plan will be reviewed on a regular basis with the service user and a representative, and will be updated accordingly.

We also aim to recruit a diverse range of staff that will be of good character, integrity and trustworthiness, and undergo rigorous recruitment checks including a police check with the Criminal Records Bureau. We expect staff to engage in the philosophy of SCA to improve the lives of the people we are for by showing kindness, dignity and respect. In return they are supported with comprehensive training and supervisory support, with the opportunity to progress on upwards through the organisation.
