I am passionate about being able to make a difference to an individual’s life.
‘I have 19 years’ experience in the care sector. I have worked in hospitals, domiciliary care, nursing and residential homes as a carer. I was also the manager for Oak Lodge day centre at SCA. I enjoy having a positive impact on people’s lives.
My role here at SCA is to develop the day centres further, to ensure we offer the most appropriate activities and experience to each individual. I am passionate about supporting people to maintain their favourite hobbies and activities for as long as possible.
In my free time I am the chairperson for the Bursledon, Hamble and Hound Dementia Action Group, where we run events through the year to help raise awareness of dementia. I am a dementia champion and give sessions within the Southampton area to recruit new dementia friends.
We run five day centres providing fun, friendship, support and respite for older people in a safe and accessible venue.
Transport is provided to and from the centres by SCA Transport who provide a door-to-door service in fully accessible minibuses with fully trained drivers and escorts.
Our day centres are run by our team of trained and professional care staff along with a team of volunteers. We have been running day centres across the whole of Southampton for over 20 years.
In addition to our more traditional day care centres we have dementia clubs. These are specifically for older people with dementia.
Our clubs offer:
a great opportunity to make friends and become part of a group
memory exercises, reminiscence projects, word and number puzzles.
activities such as gentle excercise classes, carpet bowls, movement to music and skittles
