Respite Care
SCA Care delivers respite care services called the Sitting Service, Take-a-Break Service and Companion Services. We also run a number of Wellbeing Clubs which provide a safe and enjoyable day out for frail, older people and people with dementia. See our Wellbeing Clubs page for more detail.
The Sitting Service and Take-a-Break services are much the same service which enables carers to 'take a break' from caring for a loved one or a relative.
They are delivered in a minimum of two hour time slots, allowing the carer ample time to go shopping, visit friends or places of interest.
In some areas where this service is provided, carers can 'bank' their allocation of hours and use it within the calendar month, enabling them to spend longer periods doing what interests them.
Variations of this service can include some personal care tasks that the informal carer would have otherwise undertaken whilst they were there.
The Companionship Service provides a care worker who will spend time with our customer, engaging in simple activities such as conversation, playing games, watching a film or reading a book together or being able to enjoy the garden.
All these services are available to buy directly from SCA Care by telephoning your local office (see below).
Some are also available through your local Adult Social Services as follows:
The Take a Break service is a funded service, available through Adult Social Services in Fareham & Gosport and Havant & Waterlooville.
The Companion Service is available in the New Forest area, through Adult Services.
