What is Advocacy
Advocacy is about giving people a voice, and making sure that voice is heard!
Our advocacy service empowers and enables vulnerable people in our society to find solutions to problems that they have in their lives and speak up for their rights in times of trouble. These problems may be around family, relationships, finance issues, benefits, complaints, adult protection, child protection, bullying, power of attorney, as well many others.
SCA currently works with two local authorities covering Bournemouth and Havant areas and in addition provides private advocacy across parts of Hampshire, the New Forest and Dorset.
Advocacy is taking action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services they need.
Advocates and advocacy schemes work in partnership with the people they support, and take their side in order to promote social inclusion, equality and social justice.
All kinds of people from many different walks of life become advocates, and all share a common goal to support others to find solutions to problems they are experiencing in their lives.
Advocates put their own personal beliefs aside, and represent the views of the person they are working on behalf of without judgement or prejudice.
Our customers come from all walks of life and face many different issues. It is our goal to work with them, understand what they need to achieve and ensure that they get the information, support and action required to resolve the difficulties they are facing. We do this by providing each individual or group with an advocate who works on their behalf to achieve the outcome they want.
