Here are some of our most frequently asked questions:

1. How does advocacy work?

Once you have made contact with us, we will discuss your problem with you and how an advocate may be able to help. An advocate will then be allocated to you and will arrange a time to meet you to talk through your problem, what outcome you would like and what steps need to be taken to achieve this. The advocate is able to support you to resolve your problem and will not take any action without your permission. The advocate will meet with you as many times as necessary and ensure you are happy with the progress of the case.

2. Where will the advocate meet with me?

The advocate can meet you wherever is most convenient, this may be your own home or in a local cafe or community centre. A meeting room can be made available at the SCA offices if preferred.

3. What can an advocate help with?

Advocates can help with a wide range of issues and have a wealth of experience.

4. Who can have an advocate?

Anybody can have an advocate. Our team are also trained and experienced in working with people who have a wide range of disabilities including learning difficulties, mental health issues, dementia type illnesses, physical disabilities or sight and hearing impairments.

5. Is information kept confidential?

Yes, SCA advocates work to a strict confidentiality policy.

6. Who are the advocates?

The SCA advocates come from a variety of professional backgrounds including social services, health bodies, magistrates, housing and the private sector. Advocates all undertake an intensive training course with SCA when they join the team. All advocates meet strict recruitment checks including full CRB checks.

7. Who are SCA?
